Here is my description and ansessmest of what I received after I purchased this item:Physical description:It is a lighting to dock connector adapter. It has a roughly 8 inch long cable with a Lightning connector on one end and a female dock connector on the other end. It is clearly an aftermarket item, as the lighting connector is not a machined piece of metal like the Apple product, but made out of sheet metal formed into the shape of a lightning connector. The Tests:Test 1: Insertion and RemovalInsertion of the lightning connector into my iPhone 5 is stiffer than what I’ve experienced with the Apple-supplied cable, but I don’t have to use undo force. Removal is similarly stiff , more crunchy than I’d like but not such a bad fit that I don’t use it.The lightning connector’s plastic shell is a bit larger in all dimensions when compared to the plastic shell of Apple’s lighting connector. However, it clears my CaseCrown case without any issue, and therefore I do not see this as a problem.Test 2: ChargingThe adapter works well in terms of charging.I have charged my iPhone 5 with this adapter using four scenarios, all successful: (1) an official Apple iPhone charger with a USB dock connector cable, (2) a Sony clock radio with Dock connector, (3) a car cigarette lighter adapter with a dock connector, and (4) my computer via a USB dock connector cable.Charging also works after reversing the lightning connector.Test 3: USB dataUSB works with this cable too. I plugged in the cable into a USB dock connector cable, and iTunes immediately saw my iPhone 5. I could sync, download photos, etc, without issue.I unplugged the adapter from my iPhone 5 and flipped the lightning cable. USB continued to work.Test 4: AudioAudio didn’t work as I expected: I plugged the adapter into my Sony clock radio with iPod dock connector, and then I plugged my iPhone 5 into the adapter. The phone went into charging mode, but audio was delivered via the iPhone 5 speaker. I reversed the cable. Still no audio.I tried it with a Grantwood Technology FM transmitter with dock connector that I use in my car. Again, charging worked but audio was delivered through the iPhone speaker. From my vantage point, the adapter supports no analog line out audio capability. Conclusions:This adapter does provide utility in the areas of charging and USB data, but without audio line-out capability, it may not meet your needs or expectations.- Useful for charging.- Useful for syncing/USB.- Reversible.- Does NOT support analog audio out with my iPhone 5- Bulkier lightning connector- Clearly a clone product, with a poorer mechanical fit and made of cheaper materials
